Description: Vintage Prince Albert 'Old Country Roses" Fluted Gilt EdgedCoffee / Tea Cup & Saucer Set (2 available) Made in England - Bone China with 1962 Mark Last I read Old Country Roses was the most popular china pattern in the world! Indeed, it is a gorgeous design, and still being made so the variety of pieces you can find and add to a collection is substantial. Designed by Harold Holdcroft, it was born in 1962. After the war, England's pottery industry was struggling to make a come-back and the instant popularity of this pattern provided just the turning point the Royal Albert pottery needed to survive. It continues to be produced today, although no longer in England. The older England made pieces will be marked as such...... later pieces are marked as made in Malaysia or China. Two of these sets are available, the listing is for a purchase of 1 set. The marks on both sets are the same. They feature the curved line of text with a 1962 copyright date in it. The date is not indicative of when these sets were made, however. This particular mark is for pieces manufactured in England from 1974-1980.... sort of 2nd generation. Condition: Both sets are in equal excellent condition. There are no cracks, chips, hairlines, stains, crazing, or utensil marks. They appear as never used. They feature a fluted and gold brushed gilt edge. Pretty sure they would have been in the same original lot. The saucers are 5.5" diameter, the cups bowls are 3-3/8" in diameter excluding the handle (4-3/8" including it). Please see all photos to complete the description. I purchased a mish-mash of extra pieces at an estate sale a few years ago because they were all in such fine condition. I found there was a variety of Royal Albert marks on them, however, so I divided them up and am offering them as replacement pieces by the mark.
