Description: eBay View all Feedback newsletter for latest news & offers Menu Rolex watches Omega watches All items for sale Accessories Rolex Tiffany & Co Explorer II Ref 16550 Vintage Men's Wrist Wrist Watch Produced for just 4 years between 1985 and 1989 the 16550 is often referred to as a transitional model and is highly prized by collectors, however it is the 16550 with a white dial that is particularly coveted especially when as with this stunning example the tritium lume has aged to the very desirable cream colour ,All of this points to this piece being a great addition to any collection however it doesn’t stop there, this piece is elevated to a whole new level by the fact that the dial was signed by the prestigious Tiffany and Co who retailed this when new in 1988 Tiffany was among a select band of prestigious retailers that had there own names on the dials of the Rolex watches they retailed, a practice that actually lasted for a number of decades until the 1990's, some of these dials were stamped by Tiffany and co themselves ,some actually hand pained and some were done by Rolex themselves until Rolex eventually stamped it out and as a result ended the relationship with Tiffany., The 16550 is an important reference in explorer history as it was the first to introduce the 40mm case and sapphire crystal and higher beat automatic cal 3085 movement and importantly it introduces the aforementioned white dial to the line-up.
