Description: Roberts & Belk silver plated meat fork. Dispatched with Royal Mail 2nd Class. A silver plated meat fork with bone handle made by Roberts & Belk of Sheffield. This type of fork was typically used for carving a joint of meat at the table. The tines are sturdily constructed and slightly inward-facing for grip, while the shoulders bear a finely detailed die-stamped pattern of river foliage. The company trademarks R&B and the lamp device are also stamped decoratively into the tines. The collar is also silver plated, and stamped with a pattern of interlocking stars. The handle is of bone, highly polished. Silver plate is difficult to date, but this type of utensil is typical of the late 19th century. The fork is about 7" long and 2" wide. The condition is excellent. The silver plate is undamaged, with no dents or scratches, just the typical minor surface wear to be expected on a piece of cutlery in regular use for well over a century. The bone handle is also in excellent order, with no sign of splitting. The item is ready for use or display with no need for repair. Roberts & Belk, distinguished Sheffield silversmiths, existed in various incarnations from 1809 until 2007. Their work is always first class.
