Description: This is a small creamer and saucer from Ridgways Pottery England. They are both from the “Coaching Days and Coaching Ways” series. The creamer is 3 inches tall. It is marked on the bottom “Scenes form Coaching Days & Coaching Ways - By Special Permission of Macmillan & Co. - Ridgways England. The scene on its side is entitled “A Winter Day’s Amusements”. The creamer is in good shape commiserate with age- it has lost much of its platinum detailing, and has a tiny hairline crack at the rim. I’ve included a closeup photo of it. The saucer is 5 inches across. It has the same mark as the creamer. The image on the front is entitled “Henry the Eighth and the Abbott of Reading “I would give 100 pounds if I could feed so lustily on beef as you do””. It is in good condition commiserate with age with a chip to the rim as shown in the photos. “As early as 1792, the Ridgway brothers produced quality earthenwares in Shelton, Staffordshire, England. Ridgway factories produced almost every conceivable kind of pottery. One of the branches produced a line called Coaching Days and Coaching Ways. The Coaching Days and Coaching Ways series was created on an amber brown transferware pottery with black transfers. It was made in the 1890s to the 1920s. The series features illustrations chosen from ones by Hugh Thomson & Herbert Railton, that were contained in the book “Coaching Days and Coaching Ways” by W. Outram Tristram. The book was first published in 1888. Each item showcases different scenes from routes along old English stagecoach roads. The coaches traveled between inns and villages and the scenes featured on the pottery highlight the travel and inns. Some of the buildings are still standing today.” Please view the photos carefully as that are an important piece of the description. Please feel free to contact me with questions.
