Description: This was obviously carved by someone with a lot of time on their hands. Perhaps it is actually prison-made as so many sellers claim of their offerings. However, this is not built of ice cream sticks, or matches, or cigarette packs, but from scratch using lengths of raw wood requiring joinery and craftng to create. It is a small trinket or jewelry box with a smooth-opening drawer on wooden knob feet. It is modern but not new; let's call it "vintage". Trapezoidal in shape, it is "mosaic" or "chain-of-lightning" style construction with double-carved notches, that is, cut into both surfaces of the wood: twice the work and required precision! Under a thin shellac coating it is sans finish with the addition of colored highlights. These, I believe, were not painted but dyed. It is in pristine condition. With a small wooden knob, the drawer opens and closes smoothly. The lid pivots neatly on sturdy brass hinges. It is lined with green flocked or velvet fabric. Each side is centered with decorative flat shapes that probably have no meaning but break up the monotony of mosaic work. This is not cigar box recycled wood tramp art but craft "tramp art" created from new materials, lending some credibility to the prisoner-made notion. It measures 9x5x3. U.S. buyers please.
