Obverse shows the Head of Martin Luther (as "Sir George the Knight") and the inscription "MARTIN LUTHER EHRUNG DER DDR 1983". Reverse shows a historical coin and the inscription "KULTURBUND DER DDR MÜNZAUSSTELLUNG 1983" - "VII. BMA EISENACH". The medal was designed by medalist Helmut König. Diameter 42 mm, weight 33.5 g.
