Description: These slabs of red and black obsidian were in a box with other slabs that Dad was saving to turn into cabochons, but he never got around to using them. The larger slab weighs about 172 grams and measures roughly 104 X 104 X 8 mm. The smaller slab weighs about 48.300 grams and measures roughly 83 X 51 X 7 mm. Some of the photos show the stones dry and others (like the ones with an aluminum pie tin or blue towel in the background) show them wet. With his PhD in mineralogy, my father loved to collect rocks. He took great pride in his mineral collection which he carefully organized by chemical groups. Since he recently passed away I'm tasked with finding his treasures a new home. Just so you know, I do send all the tags that he had with each mineral because they tell a story of the travels of the specimen. If they were with Dad's specimen I included them but you may have to look at the very bottom of the box to find them. I have added one of Dad's identification tags with what little information I have on the specimen in case you want to continue to seek out the scientific data and add it to the tag. I still have loads of rocks and rough material to re-home so I'll be posting more of my father's rock collections (rough material, cut stones, pendants, mineral specimens, and other rock related items) off and on for months so do make my store one of your favorites and check in often to see what new items are listed.
