READING HARDWARE (RHC) 1700 1/2 RH ENTRY MORTISE LOCK RE-MANUFACTURED w/NEW CYLINDER & KEYS (40337) Vintage: Absolutely beautiful! circa 1894-1915: READING HARDWARE 1700 1/2 mortise lock, completely rebuilt. Right Hand swing, check our Hand of Doors chart to be sure you can use this RH swing lock, it is NOT REVERSIBLE. If you need a LH swing, please check with us, we may have one. Dimensions as follows: Note the 1700 1/2 models depicted in the 1897 and 1899 RHC catalogs show the 1700 1/2 was produced with a total width of 4" and one was produced with a total width of 3 1/2" (probably for French doors). This is the model with a total depth of 4" from the front edge of the brass faceplate to the back of the box. The bright brass face on this 1700 1/2 has a length of 9 1/8" by 1 1/4" and the face is 1/8" thick brass. It is marked VASSAR at the top, patent date of 1893 on the deadbolt. The set functions perfectly.The backset is 3". The has accommodation for a thumb turn as it has a cam of 3/16" located under the cylinder for the insertion of the thumb turn post from the interior backplate. Fantastic and not easy to find in this condition. If you are replacing a 1700 1/2 you likely already have the correct strikeplate, but if you need a strikeplate, contact us and we can very likely fabricate one for this set if we do not have one in stock.
