Description: Raymond Paul Moats Oil Painting of ME-262 JetTitled "Twenty Seven Seconds, February 1945" Messerschmitt German Fighter Plane WWII Oil Painting on BoardChasing Down a Group of B-17sOffered here is a beautiful Raymond Paul Moats Painting for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift or keep for yourself! Only one other of Mr. Moat's oil paintings is available online as we were listing this piece, as most of the original paintings he did are on display museums or airbases, a very few are held in private collections. Beautiful colors and detailing in this oil painting of a German jet fighter plane about to engage American bombers ahead of him. The painting was done by Raymond Paul Moats, a well known aviation artist, whom left this world in 2019. The painting shows a Messerschmitt jet fighter plane in the foreground with another off of his left wing. The two planes are approaching what is most likely a group of B-17s in the distance. Beautiful coloring and details. The painting was done in 1997 and is titled "Twenty-seven seconds, February 1945". That title refers to how long the jet could be in the air before returning to base, so very short operational time. This is an oil on board. Signed by the artis in the lower right corner of the front as well as on the back. The artist wrote his provenance on the back of the piece in black paint, see pics. This fine piece of Artwork is being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a high end auction house or gallery. We have been selling items out of our home for over 35 years. We can therefore better control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don't have the overhead that the high end auction houses and galleries experience. The wood frame has a nice wood gold gilt frame. Some loss to the finish, still shows well. Unfortunately, no other provenance came with this beautiful oil color painting. No rips, tears, or repairs to the canvas. The Raymond Paul Moats Oil Painting in frame is 24" tall, by 42" across, by 1" wide. The oil painting within the frame is 19-3/8" tall by 37.5" across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Don’t be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions. Some information about the ME 262 WWII Jet Fighter Plane from the internet; The Messerschmitt Me 262, nicknamed Schwalbe (German: "Swallow") in fighter versions, or Sturmvogel (German: "Storm Bird") in fighter-bomber versions, was the world's first operational jet-powered fighter aircraft. Design work started before World War II began, but problems with engines, metallurgy and top-level interference kept the aircraft from operational status with the Luftwaffe until mid-1944. The Me 262 was faster and more heavily armed than any Allied fighter, including the British jet-powered Gloster Meteor. One of the most advanced aviation designs in operational use during World War II, the Me 262's roles included light bomber, reconnaissance and experimental night fighter versions.Me 262 pilots claimed a total of 542 Allied aircraft shot down, although higher claims are sometimes made. The Allies countered its effectiveness in the air by attacking the aircraft on the ground and during takeoff and landing. Strategic materials shortages and design compromises on the Junkers Jumo 004 axial-flow turbojet engines led to reliability problems. Attacks by Allied forces on fuel supplies during the deteriorating late-war situation also reduced the effectiveness of the aircraft as a fighting force. Armament production within Germany was focused on more easily manufactured aircraft. In the end, the Me 262 had a negligible impact on the course of the war as a result of its late introduction and the consequently small numbers put in operational service. While German use of the aircraft ended with the close of World War II, a small number were operated by the Czechoslovak Air Force until 1951. It also heavily influenced several designs, such as the Sukhoi Su-9 (1946) and Nakajima Kikka. Captured Me 262s were studied and flight tested by the major powers, and ultimately influenced the designs of post-war aircraft such as the North American F-86 Sabre, MiG-15 and Boeing B-47 Stratojet. Several aircraft survive on static display in museums, and there are several privately built flying reproductions that use modern General Electric J85 engines. The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well.
