It has some old school tape on it. Which I think makes it cool. Though you may not. It gives it good grip when you take a few cuts. I have not oiled it up. Which may make it cooler. You're call if you buy it, at least you have the option this way. The bat was made between 1920 and 1927, as far as I can tell. Nice piece of wood. A great gift for a baseball fan.
