Description: This rare and vintage silkscreen in EXCELLENT condition by Louie Ewing depicts the historical embroidery of Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico. The print is part of the “Masterpieces of Primitive American Art” series. The artwork is a medium-sized, landscape-oriented silkscreen, measuring 10.5 inches in height and 12.5 inches in width. It is a limited edition piece, numbered as #12/500, and is signed by the artist in pencil. This a very early print in the edition. The artwork is an original, hand-printed silkscreen. It was produced for the New Mexico Laboratory of Anthropology, still in existence, and associated with the Museum of Indian Art and Culture. The bifold jacket was printed by letterpress. See detail image to see the natural indentation created by the process. The jacket is torn in half and has other creases and tears. The actual print is in great condition with very minor acidic leaching on the edge most likely due to prior matting or storage with non-archival material. Detail photos show the texture Ewing created. The fabric and embroidery is especially evident in the color part of the print.
