The emblem represents the spirituality of the Order of Saint Augustine. The flaming heart symbolizes the famous passage from St. Augustine’s “Confessions” in which St. Augustine states: “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” The Augustinian restless heart is passionately alive, with the desire to know God and experience divine love in human lives. The open book represents the Sacred Scriptures and St. Augustine's own conversion to Christianity. It symbolizes the Word of God, source of light and truth, and the quest for wisdom. The arrow which pierces the heart represents the Spirit of God piercing human hearts and calling them to continued growth in faith, hope and love. There are no visible silver hallmarks on the Cross, but it was tested positive for solid silver alloy likely corresponding to the "Sterling" purity of silver.
