Description: This is a mystery plate but it came from an excellent and well-vetted collection and was described as early Strasbourg. The footring is extremely small at four and a quarter inches, the diameter of the plate is more than twice that, at nine and a half inches. It has a large chip on the back that doesn’t show, plus several short hairlines on the back of the rim (These are original from the firing). The marks seem to be D and 3 incised, with maybe a cross (or plus) mark over a V in iron oxide. Specks from the firing are scattered across the glaze. The unusual small footrim might be a clue to its maker. Let me know if you know who made it. Ref C259 Thanks!Looking for antiques and reference books on ceramics?
