Rare Slave Trading In The Old South Frederic Bancroft Signed & Personal Items

Description: Very rare copy of Frederic Bancroft's "Slave Trading in the Old South" 1931 published by JH First. What's unique about this copy is the author's inscriptions and included items. Very good condition with minimal edge wear at spine top and bottom. See photos. Inside front cover reads "FB's I "copy of the final revision of 506 the rest of all left of the 1200 1st Ed, FB June 23, 1944" See photo as I may be off on some of the words as they are hard to read and crossed out. Also reads "Make a correct" in pencil. Page opposite table of contents also has writing and inscription. It reads "To my friend For Allan Nevins, Oct 16, 1944." And "This is the first copy of the 508" Second Printing 1932 "FB" Included items are what appears to be a publisher's advance brochure with author's writing on top. Tope edges are frayed and there is age darkening on all edges. The writing reads "You see I'm not asleep! Nothing important has happened or I'd have written. I hope you are coming soon. FB." Also included are an unused postcard with Frederic Bancroft's address stamp on it. Also included are many clippings on slavery and book reviews on related books. One is a newspaper clipping with the date 1854 on it that talks about a slave sale. Several pages from the Tennessee Historical Quarterly with reviews on similar books. Edges are damaged on these clippings - folds, tears and darkening. A clipping with the hiding "Stampp: The Peculiar Institution." Several of the reviews seem to mention "The Peculiar Institution" so that may be the theme in the collection of clippings. Last clipping is held together by paperclip and is titled "Reviews and Literary Notices" and appears to be dated August 1866. This is a truly wonderful collection and I hope it goes to someone who appreciates it and its history. All sales final. I don't want to ship this Media Mail because of the price.
