Later it was moved to Wellington Street School where it shared accommodations with a public school. This became known as Central School. This small location soon became overcrowded and new accommodations were needed. In 1878 a new school building was built at the extreme north end of Pearl Street. Further additions were added over the years and in 1935 the old ‘drill shed’ was replaced with a gymnasium at a cost of $18,000. This completed the structure as it was known in 1967. In the 1950s, students completed their high school years in grades 11, 12 and 13 at this school. Parkside Collegiate Institute was completed in the 1960s enabling students to attend all five years of high school in one location. This event foretold the end of a need for St. Thomas Collegiate Institute and it was slated for closing and demolition in 1967 to make way for the building of a new nursing home for St. Thomas.St. Thomas Collegiate Institute was demolished later in 1967, and the Valleyview Home was built on the site. In September of 1966 several former students and teachers held a meeting to discuss plans for a grand reunion of all students and teachers to be held in 1967 before the building was demolished. Early in 1967, a commemorative coin was commissioned to celebrate the event as well as raise additional funds for the reunion. The reunion was held on August 4-7, 1967.
