Description: Russell Chatham's Missouri Headwaters suite is a set of twelve 34” +/- x 45” +/- lithographs with each depicting a landscape of the area during a different month of this year. This original print illustrates the month of February, is dated 1985, and is signed by Chatham (see photo). It is number 68 of a limited edition of 275 (see photo). A brochure from the artist’s gallery (now closed) in Livingston, Montana indicates these prints were produced from 1985 - 1987. According to the Bozeman Art Museum, Chatham lithographs may have as many as 30 or more different layers of color, all of which have to be hand drawn on to the printing plate. That adds a subtilty to his work. Although this piece beautifully represents nature in winter, when viewed from a distance it has always reminded me of an abstract expressionist painting. That was NOT Chatham's intention (as far as I know) but my imagination as a result of degrees in art history sees it. I've always found this to be one of his most sophisticated works. I seriously considered keeping it but already have January, May, & August as well as three more Chatham lithographs. I also have July but will be listing it in the near future. Sadly I have limited wall space and this piece really deserves to be framed and seen. This print was purchased from a dealer in middle America. They acquired it when a professional closed his office. There may be some degree of fading and a few scuffs but in my opinion it's in very good condition for a 36 year old multicolored lithograph on paper. Please see the photographs (exclusive of the last two). It's truly beautiful and is being sold as is. At the time it was purchased, it was removed from its frame (not to our liking) but left on its mat for shipping to us. Since that time it has been kept in flat storage out of the light. It is floated on a natural linen mat (slightly larger) and will be shipped to you flat on this mat. See the last two photos which are my print (a different month) framed using the existing natural linen mat with an added off-white one surrounding it. The print is hinged to the linen mat along its top back. But if you wish it removed I urge you to take it to a professional framer proficient in doing that. It typically requires heat and/or a "Bestine" like product that should be left in the hands of a professional. Shipping is included in the price. As I will be away for much of January & February due to a medical issue, I note a 15 days handling time. It may well ship faster but that is the longest possible time it will take to get your print on its way to you. Much information can be found about Chatham and his work on the Internet. He was born in California in 1939 and died there in 2019. That said, he spent many years in Montana moving there is 1972 and returning to California after the real estate bust of 2008. I've heard it said that he is "regarded as one of the world's foremost lithographers." Just to be clear, this is not a listing for the entire Missouri Headwaters suite. It is for one print. That print is the month of February (see photos).
