Description: Very pleased to offer the finest piece of KPM I've ever seen and I apologize for not getting a better photo of Christ; I just couldn't capture how beautiful it is. We have a VERY RARE Presentation KPM Cup & Saucer; Dated February 24, 1785; Cherubs; Parian Cameo of Jesus. This set just takes my breath away. It would have definitely been a fine cabinet piece and only affordable by very few people. I would imagine that it was given to celebrate a birth or a christening. The saucer features a cherub surrounded by clouds and silk holding a proclamation with the date. The cup is just astounding with a fine, fine Parian bust of Christ done on a matte background. It is just magnificently rendered. Both pieces have thick gilding. There is a tiny factory indentation on the top of the cup, the under rim, and on the handle. The gilding is much thicker on the band of the cup but it doesn't seem to be overpainted. The saucer has two repairs and overpaints ( one at 2 o'clock and one at 11 o'clock), a rough spot on the edge ( at 7 o'clock ), and a chip on the under rim of the base; there is some gilt loss, mainly on the under rim. There is paint loss on the cherub and the proclamation, but very few tiny scratches. Why anyone would have ever displayed these pieces as one mystifies me; they both stand squarely on their own merit. The marks are perfectly in match with the inscription date of 1785. The saucer measures 1.25" by 5.25" and the cup measures 3.25" by 4". This is your chance to have your very own KPM Museum piece. Enjoy !! A KPM collector says the cup was made from 1813 to 1823. I did find what I thought was the mark from 1785; so draw your own conclusions as to the date. It's a magnificent piece either way.
