Description: Just out of a local smoke free house is this scarce pair of modernist sculptures by the Lambertville New Jersey ceramic artist Jim Webb. The sculptures have a modern design with one having a brown bronze like glaze. The other has a green over brown glaze. They measure about 7 1/8 and 7 1/2 inches long, about 4 and 4 1/2 inches high, and about 3 and 3 3/8 inches high. They are substantial and together they weigh almost 6 pounds. The sculptures are both signed Jim Webb and dated '96. They are both in very good condition. See photos as they are part of the description. Bio; Jim Webb began studying ceramics with Toshiko Takaezu while an undergraduate at Princeton University. After graduating with a degree in art history he traveled extensively, primarily in the Middle East and Afghanistan, where he developed a keen interest in Islamic art and architecture. Upon returning to the U.S. he studied economics at Columbia University where he received a master’s degree. It was while studying at Columbia that Jim rediscovered his love of ceramics. At Toshiko’s urging he moved to Lambertville, New Jersey, and became a member of the Clay Co-op group. In 1978 he opened his own studio, which is today Studio 233. Jim’s interest was born of a desire to combine clay’s sculptural and functional potential. Each piece gives him the opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind statement with the use of glazes and metallic oxides. Would make a nice addition to any collection and is guaranteed as described.
