He first worked at the Chelsea Hotel then created his workshop in Manhattan. He then decided to share his time and work between Saint-Paul-de-Vence and New York.The first paintings painted in America are distinguished from his European production by their scale and by their luminous themes. The oil-painted canvases are filled with family portraits, children, and biblical characters, My family came from Lithuania (sic), Little Girl Sitting, Saul and David (1984).
