Description: VERY RARE, Huge Original WWI Sept. 1918 Battlefield Map, "OPERATIONS ON THE NORTHERN & EASTERN FRONT .....Belgium, Lorraine, Palatinat, Alcace"Includes Somme and Ardennes, Etc.Owned & Used by Named Canadian Officer, Shows Variety of Allied & German Army Lines Superimposed on Map DESCRIPTION: Scans show it all....extremely rare ORIGINAL PAPER WWI "Operations Map on the Northern & Eastern Front" as described, DATED Sept. 30, 1918. Scale is 1:700,000, with 1 centimeter = 7 kilometers. Shows a great number of cities and amount of territory, including SOMME and ARDENNES. This was meant to provide an overall, up-to-date position of the armies, and "THE EXTREME ADVANCE OF THE GERMAN TROOPS" as of that date, shown by dotted lines.THIS MAP WAS USED!!! IF YOU WANT SOMETHING THAT WAS "THERE" AND USED DAY TO DAY DURING WWI, THIS IS IT!!! Maps were often backed by linen for greater stability in field conditions and with constant use, but this one was not. Simply paper, so really shows its age and has a great look.Best part is that I have the name of the Canadian Artillery officer who owned and used this and brought it home along with a couple of other maps, photos, barrage tables, a german cartridge box, and other souvenirs. Also hand written story about how he was the last to see his commander alive at Pashendael (shown). Owner was an artillery lieutenant, and his name and outfit will be provided to the lucky buyer. I currently have his last 3 remaining other maps on ebay. This has tiny wear spots and tears along the folds and on the edges, AS IT WAS USED. Can be repaired or backed up if desired. Still does not greatly detract from the RARITY AND DESIRIBILITY OF THIS ITEM AND SHOWS THAT IT WAS THERE AND WAS USED!!! A VERY RARE ITEM TO STILL FIND. A RARE used AND identified WWI battlefield map. Will look great with any collection or display, OR on any wall. Overall map size is approximately 28" x 42". Has great eye appeal to decorate any period wall or collection display, AND ESPECIALLY SUPER CONTENT & RARITY. Comes with copy of the hand written, detailed account about how he was the last person to see his commander alive. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS!!!
