Description: For sale is a Rare-to-find! EXTRA FANCY! Antique early 1700s 18th century large size Pewter Table Spoon with finely decorated bowl. It features a long and slender rattail on the back of the bowl and highly refined engraved design around this rattail. It is quite amazing that these intricate patterns are still visible down to its details! See photo #1. At the end of the stem, there is also a medallion motif impressed pattern. The stem boldly fanned out then turns upward in the Hanoverian flatware style. The back of the spoon shows a clear rattail design, a style indicative of a manufacture date between 1710-1730. The "Hanoverian" is the most important British flatware pattern in the 18th century. In this pattern the stem widens gradually toward the curved terminal and then turns upward. This form was adopted because the spoon was lad on the table in the French manner (the bottom of the bowl downward). This pattern was manufactured in the British Isles from c. 1710 until the 1770s. Many of these British made spoons were exported to America to serve the ever growing population of the new colonies. Although the original production covers about sixty years, the pattern can be divided in two main groups: Hanoverian with rat tail (1710-1730) and Hanoverian without rat tail (1730-1770). Each spoon measures 7” in length and the deep elongated bowl that measures 2.5” by 1.5”. Excellent condition. No damage of any kind is detected. I have a total of four with identical design and similar wear. Age appropriate surface wears and imperfections are to be expected. Please check photos from all angles for details condition.
