Description: Antique Cast Iron Highland Lighthouse Cape Cod Doorstop Rare & original lighthouse doorstop. Located in North Truro, Mass., this lighthouse was authorized for construction by George Washington in 1796. It was the first lighthouse in the nation to have a flashing light. Still in use today it is now the oldest & tallest lighthouse on Cape Cod. An example of this piece is shown in "The Doorstop Book" by John & Nancy Smith on page 245.Two piece construction with a screw joining the lighthouse to the base from underneath, the screw is tight but the lighthouse remains a little loose. Embossed on the front base: "Highland Light Cape Cod". In very good condition with a some paint loss & wear. Original paint.Measures 8 inches tall by 9 1/4" wide across the base.
