Description: Rare Antique Freshwater Opaque Tortoiseshell Limpet in Repousse Aluminum Setting.. This is a beautiful, interesting and rare piece. I have never seen another like it. The limpet or limpet-like shell is opaque and has tortoiseshell-like markings. It is in an old prong-style setting, a repousse lightweight frame. The chain appears to be sterling and shows some wear.. The catch is a simple one, not locking-more of a fold-shut tab. The catch has a similar marking on it to the flowers on the silver-tone setting. The setting appears to be aluminum because it is very lightweight and there is no color loss. There is no magnet attraction to the chain nor setting. I suspect this is not the original chain, but possibly the original fold-over catch. The chain could use a good cleaning and polish. I have only cleaned it lightly. The pendant is 2” x 1 1/2”. The chain is 18” long.
