Description: RARE Antique 19th Century PA GERMAN SIGNED "S A LENHART" HAND FORGED AXE (probably Lancaster County). It measures 17" in overall length (included axe head and handle). The axe head itself is approximately 6 7/8" in length and approximately 4" wide on blade end and approximately 3 1/8" wide on signed end. It is perfectly authentic as found retaining what appears to be its original handle and in good used good antique condition. The axe head has an iron pin in the midsection which is used to secure the wood handle (see 7th and 8th photos). I honestly don't know if this pin was inserted at the time it was forged or added later, but the color and aged patina match the balance of the axe head.
