Description: RARE UK DOG ART ILLUSTRATED HISTORY BOOK: Dog Breed Anthology with numerous full page color illustrations, written by A. Croxton-Smith, illustrated by George Vernon-Stokes. First Edition 1906, Adam and Charles Black, Publishers, London. Tan Cloth Hard Cover with Gold Gilt type and printed line artwork pictorial cover, 6.75" wide by 9" tall, Twenty full page Art plates by Vernon-Stokes, a treat since they are in color, as most books featuring his artwork is in black and white, pencil and charcoal sketches. Some wear to edges of covers, illustrations free from marks, overall excellent condition, the contents of this book are basically in as new condition. Excellent condition considering that this volume is 115 years old. Dog breeds depicted in color in this volume: English Pointer, Otterhound, Beagle, Scottish Deerhound, Irish Wolfhound, English Setter, Clumber Spaniel, Sussex Spaniel, Scottish Terrier, English Foxhound, Basset Hound, Bloodhound, Irish Setter, Flat Coated Retriever, English Cocker Spaniel, Smooth and Wire Fox Terrier, Airedale Terrier, English Bulldog, Rough Collie, Old English Sheepdog. This Auction is for the book pictured, I took the attached pictures 4/9/22. I do not ever scan my fine old books, as the spines are fragile and scanning requires laying them open flat, which can be damaging. I take photographs instead. Colors are actually richer than shown here, as my light box dilutes the colors slightly. Minor edge and shelf wear, small tear at top of spine, boards very slightly warped. Overall great condition for a book that is over 115 years old. Note: Only one of each item is available at this time, and one never knows when (or if) another may be available!!
