A rare Moroccan ceramic plate with stylized imagery of ships. a similar 18th C. Moroccan dish with a Sailing Ship decor is in the collection of Hetjens Museum Dusseldorf, Germany - documentation: De Hand Van Fatima, Marokkaanse Keramiek / The Hand of Fatima, Moroccan Ceramics - published in 1996, by Keramiekmuseum Het Princessehof, Leeuwarden, The Netherlands - text on page 55, pictures of the Hetjens dish on page 64 and 65 - which see. Produced in a Muslim society that frowned upon any imagery other than abstract and non-representational design elements - this plate is rare simply because it does depict, though in a highly stylized fashion, two sailing boats.
