The series was shot at NBC in Burbank, California. During a run-through for the show, my Aunt sat next to Bob Barker, who was always part of the show, even when he wasn't hosting. Barker was visiting with Ralph Edwards and my Aunt took the opportunity to have Ralph Edwards autograph the card. ABOUT RALPH EDWARDS Ralph Edwards (1913– 2005) was an American radio and television host, radio producer and TV producer. He was best known for his radio-TV game shows "Truth or Consequences" and the reality documentary series "This is Your Life." On that show, Edwards advanced the career of another game show host named Bob Barker, who was his protege. The version in the 1940s-1950s originally featured Ralph Edwards, Jack Bailey and Steve Dunne. When the show returned for NBC in late 1956, Edwards hired Bob Barker. Barker was then a popular West Coast radio personality and Edwards heard his radio show on his car radio. During the 2001 Daytime Emmy Awards, Barker said thatEdwards was a life-long friend and advised him to be no one else but himself. Barker hosted Truth or Consequences on NBC until 1965, and later in daily syndication until 1975. Barker also took over a revival of "The Price is Right" on CBS (from 1972 to 2007). Drew Carey has been the host since 2007. Because of Ralph Edwards, Bob Barker became a beloved and famous face for a new generation. Like Dick Clark, Ralph Edwards was a businessman/entertainer who made far more money behind the cameras than in front of them. He started out as a radio announcer and soon realized that he could cook up a show as good as the ones that were making a fortune for other people. The first show was "Truth or Consequences," a simple game based on "penalty stunts. It premiered in 1940 and as a smash hit for the rest of the decade. Edwards both produced and hosted it for CBS. After Ralph Edwards brought the show to TV in 1950, it continued to have periodical revivals into the 1950s, 1960s and the 1970s with other hosts. Ralph Edward's second great hit was "This Is Your Life," which he first created for radio in 1948. The show has been revived several times since. Every week, Edwards surprised an unsuspecting person (often a celebrity, but sometimes an ordinary citizen) and review their personal and professional life in front of the TV audience. He introduced people from their past as live guests. The show was very popular, partly because the identity of the person wasn't revealed until the show went live. During the half-hour show, Edwards would guide the narrative of the program, helping to usher visitor on and off the stage. Among the many guests were: Marilyn Monroe, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, Bob Hope, Andy Griffith, Buster Keaton, Barbara Eden, Bette Davis, Shirley Jones, Jayne Mansfield, Johnny Cash and Carol Channing. Edwards produced other game shows, including "It Could Be You," "Name That Tune," (in the 1970s), "The Cross-Wits," and "The People's Court."
