Description: The Sins of the Fathers Author: CRAM, Ralph Adams Title: The Sins of the Fathers Publication: Boston: Marshall Jones, 1919 Description: Hardcover. First edition. Paper covered boards with paper spine labels. Modest loss at the crown, and the spine label a bit darkened but readable, a very good or better copy of a fragile volume. One small embossed ownership stamp from a private foundation, and the earlier bookplate of George Allison Armour. Inscribed by the author: "To Mr. and Mrs. George A. Armour Christmas, 1918. With the affectionate greetings of the author. R.A. Cram." Armour was one of the "three short stops" of the Princeton class of 1877, one of the most distinguished classes in the Universities history. He (and two others) were so called because they stopped short of graduation. Despite not graduating Armour was responsible for the class contributing Campbell Hall. The fund raising began at the 30th year reunion of the class with a cryptic note from Armour sent to a trustee that said "three short stops $15,000." He continued to make contributions, plying his classmates with additional drink until the class had pledged the entire $100,000 cost of the building within one hour. Architect Ralph Adams Cram designed the building with two others, and it was erected in 1909. Armour's house on Stockton Street in Princeton was donated to the University, and has been the official home of the University President ever since. Scarce title, nicely inscribed, with a fine association. Three essays on history and philosophy. Seller ID: 56616 Between the Covers Between the Covers has been selling books for more than 30 years.
