Description: López del Campo, "Juan Belmonte", Spanish Bullfighter/Torero, Puerto Rico, 1970, Signed in Pencil.Arches Paper. Artist Biography Sculptor and graphic artist. López del Campo received his education in sculpture and printmaking under Francisco Vázquez Díaz and Lorenzo Homar, respectively, in the studios of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture. He later received a fellowship to study at the Fine Arts Academy in Rome (1962–65). After his return to Puerto Rico, he taught in the Puerto Rico School of Plastic Arts until 1993, at the same time producing work of his own. For financial reasons he was forced to work mostly in prints for some years, producing commissions, but it is his sculpture that he is best known for. He has always been attracted to figuration, but during his years in Italy he came in direct contact with modern movements in sculpture, and began to work in those modes. Thus, we see that at that point his sculptures began to show a special refinement and stylization, with the angular forms of the Modernist style. - Source: Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico ________All Items Sold As Is.
