Description: This is an Quartzo-made 1/43rd scale diecast model of the Porsche 956 long-tail that ran in 1983 at the 24 hours of LeMans with sponsorship by Marlboro cigarettes. It's a very well done model and has the correct "Marlboro" on the car. Quartzo is / was a Portuguese company and must have had no restrictions on placing a cigarette company's logo on the model, as opposed to the USA where tobacco products were not allowed on models. This model was made at least 25 years ago or more. The drivers were Sweden's Stefen Johansson and France's Bob Wollek. I had both drivers autograph the top of the case for me at the Petit LeMans in the late 1990's at Road Atlanta, GA, USA. Wollek died a year later. The 3rd driver was Germany's Klaus Ludwig (he was unavailable to sign it). Bob's signature is on the top of the case at top-left and Stefen's is at center-bottom. The acrylic case has not yellowed from age over the 25 years I've had it. It comes from a smoke-free home and was stored near a dehumidifier. It's been in a dark cabinet so no fading of the box's colors or model's decals. The drivers signed the top of the case with a black Sharpie. The pen was not a brand-new one so the signatures are a bit flattened in appearance. One of the first models I ever had signed, so didn't know to always carry a brand-new Sharpie with me. I displayed it without the carboard sleeve on it for over a decade so it ended up getting tiny abrasions on the acrylic case- most of these will buff-out with Novus Scratch Remover. Bob Wollek's signature is extremely rare on any type of diecast model. He died many years ago in 2001 while riding a bicycle the morning of a race he was running at Sebring, Florida (hit by a car). He won the prestigious Daytona 24 hours race 4 times and the 12 hours of Sebring once. He won 11 World Sportscar Championship races plus many touring car races throughout Europe. Johansson ran sports cars for many years and won the 1997 24 hours of LeMans. He is most famous for driving in the World Driving Championship (Formula 1) for Ferrari and McLaren.
