Description: Qing Empire China Burma Yellow Sea c. 1850 Tallis Rapkin decorative map China. (Old Maps, 19th Century Maps, Asia, Qing Empire, China, Burma, Yellow Sea, Chinese Soldiers, Hong Kong). Issued London, c. 1850-60; Drawn & engraved by J. Rapkin. Published by Orr & Co. Lovely mid- 19th century antique map, engraved with original outline hand color. Decorative visual appeal, unique to this era and series. Widely considered one of the most decorative maps of the 19th century, charming well rendered vignettes scenes surround the map, all set within in delicate intricate floral and lace border. All delicately engraved with flourish and nuance. Center fold reinforced on back with well done rice paper repair, top left corner diagonal crease backed with old paper repairs which make it appear almost invisible from front, top edge toned, top left side of centerfold with small split in border. Still, mostly clean, pleasing uniformly toned age patina, remains a nice looking example. Sheet measures c. 10 1/2" x 14 3/8". Printed area measures c. 10 1/8" x 13 1/8".
