This picture is probably in the 1870s before the 1880 earthquake damaged the Santo Domingo Church (background). While Puente Grande Bridge was being repaired this temporary pontoon bridge was constructed one block below on Calle Rosario. In the middle of the bridge, the spans were supported by cascos, or large flat-bottomed boats. 'Puente Grande' bridge was where the Bridge of Spain "Puente de España" was located… The history of this temporary bridge sketchy at best with some conflicting information from different sources.Generally nice, with only minimum age and handling Great Piece of History Size: This antique print is approx. 6.25" x 9.5" and blank on reverse side.
