To ensure they were indeed IIIA I took one to the range and fired a 9mm Hornady Critical Duty 135gr +P and a Remington Hydra-Shok .44 magnum 240gr at one of the pads. I fired the 9mm first and then the .44 magnum. See pictures. These PACA Trauma Shields have over 30 layers of Spectra Shield and are thinner that their earlier Kevlar models. These pads are perfect as trauma shield additions to your Level IIa or Level IIIa vest; however, they also work very well for loading and unloading your pistol in a non-range environment. What does that mean? Most negligent discharges happen when people are loading and unloading. Remember the four rules of gun safety: -- All handguns are always loaded -- Always point the muzzle in a safe direction. We live in a 360-degree world and the safe direction may change with different circumstances. -- Always keep your finger OFF the trigger until you are intentionally firing a shot.
