It's a perfect choice for those who prefer quality over volume!With its extraordinary engineering, advanced design concept and extreme flexibility, Pioneer's SX-525 AM-FM stereo receiver offers a level of performance that can only be described as awesome. Its exceptional FM reception is achieved through the use of a low-noise FET RF amplifier and FM Muting circuit. So it cleanly and clearly picks up stations that were once just numbers on the dial - without interference. There's also a front-panel Mic input and the ability to use the 2nd Tape Loop as expansion jacks for 4-channel applications!The front panel offers a multi-position Speaker Output selector, click-stop tone controls, Stereo/Mono and FM muting and a Loudness button that contours the sound perfectly for low level listening.While the manual gives this a "Music Power" rating of 72 watts @ 4Ω, we prefer to use the more reasonable "Continuous Power" rating of 34 Watts, or 17 W/Ch into 8Ω through full spectrum and both channels fully driven. While it does have a rather pedestrian Total Harmonic Distortion of 1.0% at full power, bring down the power just 35% and you have a much more impressive 0.05% THD! Remember, these are what audiophiles call "Vintage Watts," from an era where, unlike today, it was a sin to manipulate or elaborate the power ratings!The front panel has both 1/4" Headphone & Mic jacks while the rear offers two speaker zones, an Aux Input, two Tape Loops, one with the PLAY/REC DIN jack found in the higher-end offerings of the era and the other ready for 4-Channel applications, and stereo Phono Inputs with a grounding post for your turntables! It also has two AC outlets, switched & unswitched, a power fuse-holder and user-access to the protection fuses. It weighs in at just under 18 lbs and measures 14-1/2" x 5-3/4" x 17-3/4" wide! NOTE: This receiver uses Pioneers speaker connectors for connecting your speakers to the custom speaker jacks. We are including the pictured pair for using the main speaker outputs, you will need an additional set to use the second speaker outputs. They are available from multiple eBay sellers. Condition:This rare receiver is in "Very Good" condition with minor signs of use and a nice, clean front panel! Aside from a few scuffs to the veneer and dings to the lids back corners, the only other thing worth mentioning is a few light front panel scuffs, most too faint to make out in the pics. All original knobs are present & complete, as are the feet and attached AM Antenna & AC cord. The manual has gone missing, but no worries, it's available online or we will send you the PDF file directly on request. A bonus NEW FM Dipole Antenna is included. Please do inspect all the pictures thoroughly for actual condition.Service:On inspection, this unit was working, just some scratchy or inconsistent controls and a dim dial, so as with all vintage receivers it went to our tech for servicing. First, Pioneer used certain transistors throughout this model that have known issues after 40 years. So, whether or not they were still working, our tech insists on replacing these transistors as they will assuredly fail some time in the near future. A total of 11 transistors were upgraded to brand new. high quality parts from Onsemi, no used or NOS components! It's this kind of thoughtful, preventative servicing that makes it smart to buy from a company with an experienced, in-house technician!Only one lamp was still working, but as it was most likely going to fail soon all the lamps were replaced with long-life LED's! We installed the new frosted Cool White LED's in the dial which shine through the blue dial with better consistently, then a Green LED was chosen for the meter that contrast the dial beautifully. But if you prefer a Warm White LED that shines through the meter with the original blue color, just let us know BEFORE buying or sending an offer and we will switch it out for you free of charge! Even the all the indicators and hard to replace pointer lamp were upgraded so you won't have to worry about them ever again. In fact, we weren't happy with the lack of illumination the unidirectional LED's give on these pointers, others just resort to using an incandescent. But as longevity is the whole idea behind the LED upgrade, our tech has come up with a custom way to install a 1-segment LED that illuminates the pointer much better.All vintage receivers receive the following services and much more, all performed by our qualified technician:Lid is removed & unit is inspected to determine if any attempted amateur repairs exist that need to be corrected, or substandard parts that need replacementThe exterior, all knobs & plexis are cleaned & detailedWhile the front panel is removed for cleaning, all attachments are re-glued and dried out foam inserts replaced. We are in a remote area, still we were able to pull in all our local FM stations with the included wire antenna, activating the tuning meter and lighting the Stereo lamp.
