Great communication and service. The TASCAM Portastudio was the world's first four-track recorder based on a standard compact audio cassette tape. It remains one of the most popular of the "old school" analog Portastudios, making them increasingly hard to come by. Released in the mid-80's, the Tascam 246 is the top of the line Portastudio, considered the pinnacle of the Portastudio technology, exceeding even the later 8-track models for sound & build quality! Not to mention the 246 has four direct tape outs, six channel inserts and a four buss mixer, making professional recording much smoother. It features a built in mixer with an unrivaled EQ section on each channel with each knob split for gain & frequency, two effects loops and the four PGM busses means it can record on up to 4 tracks simultaneously. To increase the quality of the recording, in addition to the DBX Noise Reduction, the 246 offers the choice between normal and high-speed recording, at 3-3/4 ips, twice the normal speed of a standard audio cassette. It measures 19.5" x 15.5" x 4.75" and weighs about 23.5 lbs.These 246's are sometimes available, but rarely working. We are very picky about condition and any deck must meet several requirements before we will call a deck Mint, let alone New. So what puts the "y" in Minty? On inspection this deck has nice, sharp corners to the cabinet and knobs with minimal signs of use to the tape path! If it weren't for a few tiny scratches and light wear to one corner we would have had no problem calling this fully "Mint!" The original Owner's Manual had gone missing so we are including the pictured copy we had in our archives. All comes in a generic box with custom Styrofoam packaging.
