St. John Gaffney, was the American Consul General in Munich He was rabidly anti-allies for the duration of WWI. Born in Ireland and a naturalized American citizen, he denounced the American press for being openly criminal in succumbing to the influence of the British. Since most of the Americans living in Munich did not speak or read German, he produced an English-language newspaper "American Notes" which consisted primarily of translations from the German Press. Most scholars have noted that he appealed to the extremely racist sentiment of the times. Slightly aged, else very good. A very scarce and interesting ephemeron.
