Description: President James Monroe Autographed/Signed Handwritten Letter (Autograph Letter Signed (ALS)) - Dated February 12, 1824 (as President) - PSA/DNA Encapsulated/Slabbed - Autograph Graded Near Mint-Mint 8 Details about this letter: This letter was directed to "The Cashier of the branch bank of the US City - Washington" by James Monroe, the 5th President of the United States, authorizing his bank to make a payment on January 1st of the following year. In full "Sir Pay to Dr. Thomas Sim twenty six dolrs. on the first of January 1825 for James Monroe." Monroe added his location and date at the top: "Washington Feby 12. 1824". Dr. Thomas Sim was the Presidential physician to several cabinet officers. He is here receiving the president's handwritten promise to pay him a sizeable amount in today's dollars. I'm unsure of what this financial note is for, but it is known that Monroe had recurrent flare-ups of malaria throughout his life and several prolonged illnesses of unknown types. On the reverse of this document, Dr Sim has handwritten and signed an endorsement: "Pay the within to the order of Col. Geo Bomford Feby 25 - 1824 Thos Sim". Colonel George Bomford was a distinguished miliary officer in the US Army as well as an inventor and designer of weapons and defensive installations. He also signed on the reverse of this document "G. Bomford" acknowledging payment from the bank on January 4, 1825. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask before purchasing.
