Description: British Parliament 1925 Vintage Lithograph 1882 Page of History This is a interesting and stunningly detailed original 1882 page with engraving rescued from one of the many books published of the History of the Old & New Worlds. Engravings in these books have exceptional detail, being works of art in their own right. They often depict people or scenes from a different perspective than usually seen in more formal prints. Look at the detail in these engraving. It will look great framed as a piece of the past. This page contains a wood engraving of: Garfield's Home (during the 1880 Presidential Election) James A. Garfield, the 20th president of the United States, made his home at Lawnfield from 1876 until his death in 1881. Here he conducted the first “front porch” presidential campaign, giving speeches from the verandah. The many reporters camped out on the lawns around the house gave the property its name. Garfield was a leader of the Radical Republicans in the House of Representatives when he received the nomination as a “dark horse” candidate for president in 1880. He began his presidency with attacks on political patronage and corruption, but his assassination by a deranged office-seeker cut short what might have been a vigorous administration. He was shot twice in the back on July 2, 1881, and endured two months in agony before dying on September 19. In 1880, James Garfield used his front porch as a platform to greet thousands of well-wishers during his presidential campaign. James Abram Garfield was the 20th President of the United States, serving from March 4, 1881, until his assassination later that year. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques: relief printing (woodcut & wood engraving), intaglio printing (steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and planographic printing (lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.). While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty.
