There are various concave indentations placed around the entire sculpture for added grip strength.This implement has a hammer, pecking, grinding/smoothing applicability based on its structure and hand position and wear/stress areas. There are several distinctly conspicuous images also. and is also exceptionally sculpted. The metate is an exceptional example of ancient craftsmanship. It is truly a collector's artifact.
