Description: A large Quartzite cobble and a probably marine fossil reminant repurposed in prehistory and used as a grinding stone for a cereal saddle Quern. The stone shows clear signs of wear, where it has been repeatedly used as a double-handed quern stone. This wear can be appreciated by smooth polished surface striations which have worn away the reminant fossil inclusions. Provenance: Recovered field walking autumn 2024 in on the northern Cambridgeshire Fenedge. The stone was found close to a known Iron Age settlement site which, was previously occupied in the Bronze Age.
