Description: This carved caricature of a preening pintail was created in the tradition of decorative decoyscarved across the last century. From the early 1900s to the present many decoy carvers wouldoccasionally recreate animated versions for display. This bird was painted in the simple "blockpainting" style common to decoys used for actual duck hunting purposes. A few flourishes ofartistry are present in this rendering to make for a more attractive display piece. It was carvedfrom tupelo gum by Lane Brigham who lived and carved alongside a number of well-knownCajun carvers in Terrebonne parish and on Bayou Lafourche. The bird has been in a privatecollection for the past decade.
