Description: Pre-Columbian Jaguar Pot Costa Rica 3 Legged Rare Museum Quality PieceThis amazing piece was brought back from Costa Rica by my parents in the 1970's. They were ecstatic to have been able to acquire it, and it has always been the centerpiece of their Pre-Columbian collection.Sadly, they are both gone now, as well as their collection, except for this gem. We hate to sell it, but it belongs in a great collection, or a museum, not in a box.Decades ago I was in the Natural History museum in San Jose, Costa Rica and saw a jaguar pot very similar to this. Since then I've only seen reproductions. There are little bits of earthquake putty on the feet of this vessel, it's the blue stuff that you see in the pictures. It's because my folks had this pot in a special glass case in our home in Los Angeles for many years, where earthquakes were common. There are a few cracks in the legs of this pot, I do not know if they are repairs or not. These are shown in several of the photos. The last photo shows the ridge along the back of the pot, I assume it is either the jaguar's spine or tail. The pottery shards inside the pot were there when I found this piece. They don't seem to go to this pot, they will be included when you buy this piece. This will be shipped after very careful packing. I will double box it, and each box will have a lot of packing inside. I will also insure the package for the final sales price. This vessel weighs about 7 lbs. Measurements are in the photos, it's roughly 13.5" tall. The last 3 photos show appraisals my parents had done for insurance, 2 in the 1970's and the last one in 1985.Happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability.
