St. Thomas Episcopal Church is an old church on Craven Street in Bath, North Carolina. It was built in 1734 and is the oldest church building that's still around in North Carolina. The St. Thomas Parish was started right after Bath County, North Carolina was made in 1696. The first group of people who went to this church used to meet in people's homes. Around that time, Rev. Thomas Bray, who started the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts in England, sent books to the St. Thomas Parish, which was the first public library in the area. The church was built in 1734. It got added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
