In 1902, he spent all his fortune creating the prototype, hired talented mechanic Walter Marr, and together they built the first car. Buick's greatest success was the development of an overhead valve engine that was much more powerful than the then commonly used side valve engines. The Buick brand was the first automobile brand to be part of General Motors Corporation.
