Description: Pontos, Amisos Time of Mithradates VI Eupator, Circa 125-100 BC Plated AE 20 mm, 8.62g. Head of Artemis to rt, wearing stephane, bow and quiver over left shoulder / Tripod. HGC 7, 240. My conjecture based on this brassy/gold metal plating over a bronze core is that it was meant to fool ancient Eastern trading partners or mercenary troops as if being gold coinage. I have seen others with this type of plating including 2 other Amisos issues in my collection, most of which are not as in good of shape as this specimen. Hi and thanks for your interest in this item. I am a professional sculptor and painter of commissioned murals and portraits. I sculpted the 9 1/2 foot tall bronze Saint Paul statue that is in the Cathedral of Saint Paul, MN, and also painted what is likely the largest mural by an individual artist in the Twin Cities. I started collecting ancient coins about 20years ago as a way to study and improve my skills at bas-relief sculpting with these miniature masterpieces in hand. . My concept is to offer interesting coins at a good value with a fixed buy it now price that I consider from collecting experience to be competitive and fair. I am happy to answer any questions regarding this... and please see my other items for sale. FULL UNCONDITIONAL GUARANTEE OF AUTHENTICITY
