Description: PokeweedPhytolacca Americana We actually discussed Pokeweed and decided we did not want this plant on the farm. Well, it had plans of its own!We moved a huge pile of wood and cleared a large fire pit area during the winter of 2019-2020. Guess what decided to sprout up and spread out everywhere? Pokeweed. The leaves are sometimes boiled as a 'southern green'. But they are poisonous! If your grandma didn't show you how it's done - please don't experiment! The berries are also poisonous. We are sure to wear gloves whenever touching berries or processing the seeds. There is some research currently being done on the juice of the berry. We have read that the berry juice is being applied to solar panels to improve the efficiency. Again, please don't experiment with this!We decided the deer and quail are loving the berries so much, we will continue to grow them each year in our wildlife garden. The Pokeweed would make a great planting for a deer food plot. By Fall, there will be a 'gathering' of deer munching on the berries.Papa has one HUGE bush down hill that is taller than him. He calls her 'Annie' from the song Polk Salad Annie by Tony Joe White. If you have a few minutes, it's a pretty good song about Pokeweed! Check it out - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyXHxh3Sye0By the way, we do not recommend 'to dry it out & smoke it'. Haha These seeds were harvested August 2023 Seed Starting Wrap seeds in a dry paper towel and place in a bag Place the bag in a refrigerator for 3 months to improve germination Sow seed 1/8" deep and keep moist Seedlings will emerge in a few weeks Start seeds in a window sill or greenhouse in Winter Transplant or direct sow in Spring Check out our store!
