Description: **** Steampunk Style Ballpoint **** This is a handmade twist action ballpoint pen made by Placid Crafts. This is a Big Ben one piece cigar style pen with Chrome hardware. The brass tube this body is built on is wrapped with a bright silver metal and then the patches are applied in copper and more silver in the steampunk patchwork style. The details on the patches look like rivets. For a distressed look a black stain applied and then wiped off so that it stays in the markings on the body. The tube is then poured in acrylic and then turned to the proper shape and polished. This is a handmade beauty. The pen is 5-3/8" long. I would consider this a larger diameter pen because it is just over 1/2". / Pen #SP21 Note: The pen pictured is the pen you will get. This pen is loaded with The Fisher #SPR4 pressurized black ink, medium point ink cartridge. The standard Fisher “SPR Series” Refills were developed for NASA and have been used on EVERY Space Shuttle mission both American and Russian. They are hermetically sealed with a specially formulated thixotropic ink and pressurized to about 35 PSI. They are the only refills that will write at any angle because they do not rely on gravity. About our Steampunk Series Pens: The body of a steampunk pen is built on a brass tube. The tube is wrapped with a metal sheet, either bright silver or copper. Then the patches are cut into various sizes and shapes and marked to look like rivets all the way around the patch before being applied to the pen body. At this point the body can be left bright or a black stain can be applied and then wiped off so that it stays in the markings on the body. Then the body is placed in a mold and an epoxy style acrylic like substance is poured over the body and put in a pressure pot at 50psi until the acrylic hardens. Then it is cut to the proper length and diameter then shaped to fit the hardware. From there it is sanded polisher and buffed to a nice finish.
