Description: Raspberry Pink Calcite (Fluorescent & Phosphorescent) - Location: Mexico. Miniature (see photo for more details). Here we have a specimen of color zoned calcite from off-white to raspberry pink. This is a piece of a much larger chunk of anhedral calcite. What make this specimen 'special' aside from the nice pink-red color is that it will fluoresce a nice bluish magenta color with SHORT wave ultraviolet light and a bright pink color with LONG wave (see photos). The specimen will also phosphoresce after exposure to short wave ultraviolet light for several seconds. Phosphorescence is a specific type of photoluminescence related to fluorescence. Unlike fluorescence a phosphorescent material does not immediately re-emit the radiation it absorbs. It releases the energy over a longer time after the light source has been removed which may vary from seconds to sometimes hours or more. This is definitely 'interesting' stuff! We accept - Paypal.
