Top edges gilt. Front inner hinge has the paper split, rear hinge partly split but very firm in the binding itself. Engraved title page (plate 1), title page, 31 b/w. plates (plates 2-32) engraved by Tombleson, Varrall, Woolnoth, etc. Prelims of Editor's Address to parts I, II and IV with Address to complete work and plate list. The two titles bound together make descriptions very difficult .BOUND WITH PICTURESQUE ANTIQUITIES OF THE ENGLISH CITIES by Britton dated 1830. which has 62 copper plates & 22 woodcuts in the text. Foxing throughout unfortunately with some watermarkings but mainly do not impinge on the actual plates. 88pps text in first part, c15 pps of description of the plates in the latter part.Description of contents has been pencilled inside front cover in pencil in a very neat hand! Owners' inscriptions (inc Dyson in Isipingo Beach (RSA?) 1943) & Dewey. Pembroke College 1937 (which hand wrote the explanation) A rather fine acquisition. Special insurance via Royal Mail medium parcel. Sold by an independent and solo ex-bookshop owner, with around 50 years of experience, who takes pride in listing and researching every volume. Someone who does not consider books as mere square objects with printing inside, fixed only on selling in high quantities as quickly as possible, but one who takes deep interest not only in the book itself, but also, where possible, its history. No "maybes" or "may not contain"s, well packed for protection & never sent in wrappers only suitable for newspapers .
