Description: Condition: This Pickering XV-15 cartridge has survived over 50 years quite well. The exterior housing is in nice condition with minor cleaning potentially needed. The stylus is included but is in unknown condition, so plan on replacing it. Only as you see in photos.. no dust whisker is present on this one... The unit was carefully removed from a working Garrard turntable, but it has not been recently tested. A perennial favorite cartridge of the late 1960s through the mid-1970s, the Pickering XV-15 was an on-again, off-again solid competitor to the legendary Shure V15 Type II. If you’ve spent all your time using Shure or other brands, this Pickering might make for an interesting change of pace. Known for its solid build quality and great sound, this cartridge is a fine example of the high standards of hi-fi audio straight out of the 1960s. This particular unit has survived over 50 years quite well and looks to have been kept in a low-use environment. The XV-15, introduced as Pickering’s top-of-the-line cartridge around the late 1960s, quickly built a reputation as a solid choice for hi-fi turntables and became a popular option for auto turntables throughout the 1970s. Early units like this one are particularly desirable because they were produced with higher-quality materials, including an all-metal exterior housing, before later models incorporated more plastic in their construction. This cartridge was carefully removed from a working early 1970s turntable and includes the used stylus, ((and no dust whisker))... . The stylus is in unknown condition, so you should plan on replacing it for optimal performance. Pickering advertised the XV-15 as having their lowest moving mass to date, along with their heavily marketed “dynamic coupling factor,” a metric they used to gauge performance and listening characteristics, I believe. The XV-15 tends to be a pretty universal cartridge—making it a fantastic alternative to the usual suspects like Shure. Don’t pass up a chance to grab this late-1960s gem. The cartridge will be carefully triple-boxed and shipped flat rate anywhere in the lower 48 USA. Overseas buyers are welcome via the eBay Global Shipping Program.
